In a landmark decision that underscores its commitment to becoming one of Africa’s leading centres of scholarship, the Board of Trustees of Baze University has approved the establishment of Baze University Press (BUP) as the institution’s official academic publishing imprint.
The decision was approved at a meeting of the University’s Board of Trustees, chaired by the Founder and Chancellor, Senator Datti Baba Ahmed, as part of the University’s continuing commitment to building an ideal twenty-first-century university founded on excellence in teaching, research, innovation and global academic engagement.

The establishment of Baze University Press places the University among distinguished institutions around the world that preserve, disseminate and promote knowledge through their own publishing houses. Across the world’s leading universities, university presses have long served as symbols of intellectual maturity, academic independence and institutional prestige, publishing scholarly works that shape public policy, influence research agendas and contribute significantly to global knowledge.
With the establishment of BUP, books, scholarly journals, inaugural lectures, conference proceedings, research monographs, policy papers, technical reports and other academic publications produced within the University will now carry the Baze University Press imprint, thereby reinforcing the University’s intellectual identity and ensuring institutional ownership of its scholarly output.
The initiative is expected to significantly enhance the global visibility of research conducted by members of the University’s academic community. It will provide an internationally recognised platform for disseminating original scholarship while strengthening the University’s academic reputation, increasing citation and research impact, and showcasing the intellectual contributions of its staff and collaborators.
University presses are widely regarded as custodians of academic excellence because they subject manuscripts to rigorous editorial scrutiny and independent peer review before publication. By adopting these internationally accepted standards, Baze University Press will promote high-quality scholarship, strengthen research integrity and encourage the production of works that meet global publishing benchmarks.
Beyond publishing books and journals, Baze University Press will offer a comprehensive range of scholarly publishing services. These will include manuscript development, academic editing, peer review coordination, copy editing, proofreading, indexing, typesetting, cover design, copyright administration, ISBN and ISSN registration, electronic publishing, open access publishing, digital archiving, journal management, conference proceedings publication, policy and technical report publication, publication of inaugural and public lectures, institutional histories, commissioned works, translation projects, bibliographic services, publication consultancy and global marketing and distribution of scholarly works through both digital and print platforms.
The Press will also serve as a strategic vehicle for preserving the University’s intellectual heritage by documenting important institutional milestones, research breakthroughs, public lectures and policy contributions for future generations. In addition, it will support emerging scholars through mentorship in academic writing and publishing while providing opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across faculties.
The establishment of Baze University Press represents yet another milestone in the University’s strategic drive towards internationalisation and academic distinction. It complements the University’s growing investment in research, postgraduate education, innovation and knowledge production while positioning Baze University as a major contributor to scholarly discourse in Nigeria, Africa and beyond.
With this development, Baze University joins the ranks of forward-looking universities that recognise that the production of knowledge is only complete when that knowledge is systematically published, preserved and made accessible to the global academic community. The establishment of Baze University Press is therefore not merely the creation of a publishing imprint. It is the institutionalisation of a culture of scholarship, intellectual leadership and enduring academic excellence.
