The Delta State Government on Monday, announced the indefinite suspension of Reuben Izeze, commissioner for works (highway and urban roads) with immediate effect.
A statement signed by Kingsley Emu, the secretary to the state government (SSG), said the suspension would enable security agencies carry out an unbiased investigation of allegations associating Izeze with the recent assault on Simon Mudi (popularly known as Temple), the senior special assistant on protocol to the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The statement added that the state government remained committed to the maintenance of public safety in all circumstances which guarantees law and order and the sanctity of lives.
This position is upheld even when institutions of state are involved, stated the SSG.
BusinessDay learnt that police had arrested Izeze over a bloody attack on Temple as he was alleged to have instigated the attack during the stakeholders meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the PTI conference center in Effurun.
Following the violent attack, Temple in a pool of blood was reportedly rushed to the hospital by Anthony Ofoni, the chairman of the Uvwie Local Government Council.
Initially, the attack was a subject of controversy. While the APC Public Relations Officer (PRO) denied bloody attack, Charles Aniagwu, the commissioner for works (rural) and public information confirmed that there was a bloody attack on Temple.
Governor Oborevwori had to order security agencies to “track down and prosecute” those responsible for the attack on one Temple.
Yemi Onyeniyi confirmed the arrest of Izeze, adding that he was detained through a court order for jumping.
As at the time of filling this report on Monday evening, Izeze was said to be detained at Orere Prison in the state.
