Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the implementation of a new salary review for academic and non-academic staff of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, and Northwest University, Kano.

This is contained in a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who said the approval followed the recommendations of a committee constituted by the State Executive Council to review requests by the two universities for the domestication of the new Federal Government salary package for federal universities.

The statement said the new remuneration package would take effect from January 2026, while payment would commence in September 2026, with a monthly financial implication of N391.85 million and N4.70 billion annually for the two institutions.

It said ADUSTECH would require N228.20 million monthly, while Northwest University would require N163.65 million monthly to implement the salary review for their academic and non-academic staff.

The government has also approved N1.57 billion in the 2026 Supplementary Budget to cover payments from September to December, while N3.13 billion in arrears for January to August 2026 would be provided for in the 2027 Budget.

According to the statement, the decision is aimed at ensuring industrial harmony, improving workers’ welfare and strengthening higher education. Yusuf also approved the consideration of visitation panels for the two universities and other tertiary institutions to enhance accountability, administration and effective management
