French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have completed the signing of France international defender Lucas Digne from Premier League club Aston Villa on a three-year contract.
PSG confirmed the return of the 33-year-old left-back on Monday, with Digne signing a deal that will keep him at the Parc des Princes until 2029.
“Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the return of Lucas Digne. The French international defender has signed for the capital club until 2029. He will wear the number 12 shirt,” the club said in a statement.
The financial terms were not disclosed, but British media reports indicate that PSG activated a £8.5 million ($11.5 million) release clause in Digne’s Aston Villa contract, worth approximately €10 million.
Digne returns to PSG
Digne returns to the French champions for a second spell after initially representing the club between 2013 and 2015.
He made 44 appearances during his first stint, winning two Ligue 1 titles, the French Cup and two French League Cups.
After leaving PSG, Digne spent a season on loan at Roma before making permanent moves to Barcelona, Everton and Aston Villa.
He joined Villa in 2022 and went on to make 182 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing 24 assists.
Digne was part of Unai Emery’s side that won the UEFA Europa League last season and established himself as one of the club’s most experienced defenders.
His departure is another significant change to Villa’s squad this summer, following the exits of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and Morgan Rogers to Chelsea.
France international
Digne has been a France international since 2014 and has earned 64 caps for Les Bleus.
He featured prominently at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, starting six matches as France reached the semi-finals.
Across his club career, Digne has made 503 appearances, scoring 18 goals and providing 59 assists. He has also played 57 matches in UEFA’s Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.
