The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has deployed a dedicated Passport Intervention Team to the United Kingdom to clear the backlog of pending passport applications by Nigerians residing in the country.

The intervention, directed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is scheduled to commence on Monday, August 10, 2026, in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in the United Kingdom.

The Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, disclosed this in a statement, saying the intervention team would visit designated cities across the UK to facilitate passport enrolment and processing.

According to the NIS, the exercise will cater to Nigerians with pending passport applications, new applicants and holders of passports with less than one year to expiry who wish to renew their travel documents.

Applicants participating in the passport intervention exercise are required to present their completed application forms and proof of payment.

The NIS said the schedule of cities, dates, venues and enrolment times would be announced through the official communication channels of the Nigerian High Commission in the UK.

The Service advised applicants not to attend any location until the official schedule is released, warning them to rely only on verified communication from the Nigerian High Commission.

The NIS further stated that its digital passport application channels, including the Contactless Passport Application System and home delivery service, would remain operational throughout the intervention.
