The Nigeria Police Force has announced the sixth edition of the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers to craft a comprehensive security blueprint ahead of the upcoming 2027 General Elections.
Disclosing this in an official statement on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, revealed that the conference, slated to take place from September 21 to 23, 2026, in Owerri, Imo State, is themed “Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections.”
According to the Force spokesperson, the retreat will serve as a strategic platform for senior command officers, security experts, and key stakeholders to evaluate emerging security threats and formulate actionable operational strategies for safe, peaceful and credible elections.
The statement partly read, “Deliberations will focus on Intelligence-led Policing, Police-Community Partnerships, digital technologies, Artificial Intelligence, and other contemporary approaches to strengthening police operations before, during, and after elections.
“The Conference, primarily involving officers of the rank of Commissioner of Police and above, will provide an opportunity for strategic engagement and the development of practical measures to strengthen the Force’s capacity for election security management.”
Iniedu added that the conference will also facilitate the development of actionable strategies for the protection of voters, electoral personnel, candidates, electoral materials and the general public during the 2027 general elections.
Reaffirming the leadership’s dedication to institutional reform and operational readiness, Iniedu noted that the police force remains committed to professionalising its personnel to guarantee a peaceful, safe, and secure atmosphere for the country’s next major election.
PUNCH reports that beyond high-level summits, state commands, such as the Lagos State Police Command, are already engaging with the Independent National Electoral Commission to guarantee maximum security for electoral personnel and materials ahead of the 2027 polls.
