A widow, Mama Mariyamo Audu Azuo, has received a new room-and-parlour self-contained house donated by the My People First Foundation in Inata community, Obeiba, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The building was inaugurated and handed over to the beneficiary over the weekend, making it the second house provided by the foundation for vulnerable women in two months.

Founder of the foundation, Hajiya Aishat Oyiza Omade, said the gesture was part of her commitment to provide decent accommodation for at least four widows before the end of the year. She said her humanitarian efforts were inspired by strangers whom God used to transform her own life.

Omade, who is also the state coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of KOSSIPA, said her position had provided another opportunity to contribute meaningfully to society, particularly by improving the lives of women and other vulnerable persons.

She urged wealthy individuals to support people in need, saying: “The true measure of wealth is not how much a person accumulates, but the number of lives he or she is able to touch and transform.”

The Technical Adviser to the Governor on Donors and Multilateral Affairs, Dr. Ozomata Abdullahi, commended the foundation for providing homes for vulnerable women and prayed for greater blessings and opportunities for Omade.

He urged other privileged individuals to emulate the gesture.

Chairman of the state Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe, said housing support should be combined with economic empowerment.

He donated cash to Mama Mariyamo to start a small business, and called on others to support her towards achieving sustainable livelihood.

Expressing gratitude, Mama Mariyamo thanked Omade for rescuing her when she had almost lost hope.

She said her former home had become severely dilapidated, forcing her to rent a room, although she continued returning to the old family house in honour of a promise to her late father.

She appealed to the government, organisations and individuals to identify and assist others living in similarly difficult conditions in the state.
