Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwo, popularly known as Mama G, has explained why she is frequently cast in witch and villainous roles in movies, saying the characters give her an opportunity to highlight the consequences of evil and injustice.
Ozokwo made the disclosure during a livestream interview with Nigerian streamer Carter Efe on Monday.
Ozokwo explains why she accepts witch roles
The actress was asked why she often portrays witches in Nollywood movies.
Responding, Ozokwo said the roles align with her desire to promote moral values and discourage wrongdoing.
“God carved that niche for me to be able to, I think, expose every ill. God created me to expose it,” she said.
She added that she strongly dislikes injustice, conflict and actions that promote hatred.
“I hate injustice. I hate war. I hate anything that shows rancour,” Ozokwo said.
Actress says roles teach moral lessons
According to the veteran actress, she approaches her villainous roles with the intention of helping viewers understand the consequences of negative behaviour.
She explained that her portrayal of such characters is designed to encourage audiences to reflect on the outcomes of their actions and make better choices.
“So when He gave me that kind of role, I try to bring out everything I know about it, that if you are taking part in any of them, you will be careful and know the end thereof,” she said.
Mama G highlights consequences of good and bad choices
Ozokwo said her performances are also intended to communicate the difference between living a harmful life and choosing to do what is right.
“You know what will happen to you if you live a terrible life. And you know what you gain if you are a good person,” she said.
The actress has built a reputation over the years for portraying strong and memorable characters in Nollywood, including several roles associated with witches and other antagonistic figures.
