Chicago suffered one of its deadliest days of 2026, with five people killed across the city within hours of each other, according to Chicago Police and Cook County Medical Examiner records.

MONDAY AUGUST 10

MARK TWAIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL — TWO KILLED — MURDER-SUICIDE

At approximately 3:40 p.m., two people were found fatally shot inside Mark Twain Elementary School at 5134 South Lotus Avenue in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood near Midway International Airport. A 48-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man were both shot. Chicago Police believe the incident was a murder-suicide. No students were present in the building as Chicago Public Schools remains on summer break.

FULLER PARK — TWO KILLED AT GAS STATION

At approximately 6:30 p.m., two people were shot and killed after leaving a gas station on the 200 block of West Pershing Road in the Fuller Park neighborhood. The victims were identified as Pamela Hall, 22, and Riek Daniel, 25. Pamela Hall would have turned 23 the following day. Both were shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center. Occupants of a silver Nissan sedan opened fire as the two exited the station. No arrests have been made.

AVONDALE — WOMAN FATALLY STABBED

At approximately 8:45 p.m., a 47-year-old woman was found with multiple sharp force injuries inside a residence on the 3900 block of West Wellington Avenue in the Avondale neighborhood on the Northwest Side. She was pronounced dead at the scene according to Cook County Medical Examiner records. No arrests have been reported, and detectives are investigating.

GREATER GRAND CROSSING — MAN KILLED

At approximately 10:15 p.m., a 38-year-old man was shot multiple times in the 7300 block of South Indiana Avenue in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side. He was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Another 38-year-old man suffered graze wounds to the right arm and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in fair condition. No arrests have been made, and Area 1 detectives are investigating.

CHICAGO LAWN — MAN SHOT

At approximately 11:27 p.m., a 34-year-old man was walking outside in the 6000 block of South Kedzie Avenue in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood when he was struck by gunfire. He sustained a gunshot wound to the buttocks and self-transported to a hospital before being transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he is listed in fair condition.

TUESDAY AUGUST 11

BRONZEVILLE — TEEN SHOT

At approximately 7:19 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the hand near 43rd Street and Wabash Avenue in Bronzeville. He is listed in good condition.

AUBURN GRESHAM — MAN SHOT

At approximately 6:14 p.m., a 36-year-old man was shot multiple times near 73rd Street and Union Avenue in Auburn Gresham. He is listed in serious condition.

NORTH LAWNDALE — MAN SHOT

At approximately 1:15 p.m., a 35-year-old man was shot in the leg near 18th Street and Harding Avenue in North Lawndale. He is listed in good condition.

CHATHAM — WOMAN SHOOTS INTRUDER

At approximately 4:50 a.m., a 49-year-old woman legally armed with a valid Concealed Carry License and Firearm Owner’s Identification Card shot a 30-year-old man in the arm as he attempted to break into her home near 73rd Street and Blackstone Avenue in Chatham. The intruder was taken into custody.

OVERNIGHT TOLL

Five people were killed, and at least seven others were wounded across Chicago.
