The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned candidates registering for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) against making costly errors while creating their profiles.

The board said mistakes made at the profile creation stage, particularly in candidates’ names and dates of birth, could lead to serious complications later in the admission process.

JAMB issued the warning in a new advisory video released as part of its “JAMB Explained” series and shared on its X handle on Wednesday.

The advisory, which was directed at “fresh candidates”, urged prospective candidates to carefully verify their personal information before completing their profile creation.

“Before you create your JAMB profile to register for the UTME or Direct Entry, take a moment and carefully check to confirm that your name, date of birth, and any other details linked to the NIN are correct. Why?” the board said.

JAMB explained that the personal information displayed during the profile creation process is sourced from candidates’ records with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), rather than being generated or modified by the board.

“That means if there’s any error with your name or date of birth, JAMB cannot change it after registration,” it said.

The board also warned candidates against believing that obtaining an affidavit would automatically result in the correction of their records with JAMB.

JAMB therefore advised prospective candidates to ensure that all identity details linked to their National Identification Number (NIN) are accurate before creating their profiles.

The board said the information provided at this stage forms the foundation of candidates’ records throughout the admission process.
