The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi over alleged inflammatory remarks against members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, was invited by the police following a viral video in which he was alleged to have directed supporters to attack Accord members during a campaign event in Ilesa.

The senator, a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was asked to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Osogbo, on Wednesday, August 12.

The invitation letter, dated August 11 and signed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of election duties in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, said the summon followed allegations that Fadahunsi made statements considered threatening, inciting and intimidating.

“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting, and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms,” the letter read.

The development followed public criticism over the video, where the senator was quoted as making remarks threatening members of the opposition Accord Party.

The controversy has heightened concerns over political violence ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with security agencies repeatedly warning politicians and supporters against actions capable of disrupting the poll.

The police said Fadahunsi’s appearance would enable the command to establish the circumstances surrounding the remarks and assess their implications for peace and security during the election.
