Senator representing Osun East, Francis Fadahunsi, has disclosed what he told the police during his interrogation over a viral video in which he was allegedly heard directing his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party and their family members.

Fadahunsi, who was interrogated at the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo on Wednesday, said he explained to the police that his comment about “killing” the Accord Party referred to defeating the party with votes in the August 15 governorship election, not physically attacking its members or their families.

Speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting with officers at the Criminal Investigation Department of the command, the senator said the video had been edited, and his Yoruba remarks misinterpreted.

He said, “Well, we have met, and I have told them what I said, not the one manipulated by mischievous interpreters of our language. I am a Yoruba man. If an Igbo or Hausa woman is interpreting Yoruba to me, Yoruba means many things.

“We said, come Saturday, election, we will kill them with our votes. Go and look at the video; it is almost 38 minutes.

“A mischievous man, I don’t know where it comes from, whether it’s on drug or where, misinterpreted from somebody’s blog. So, we’ll wait until after this to see what we can do legally to search.”

Fadahunsi also expressed concern over recent killings in his constituency, alleging that the incidents were aimed at discouraging voters from supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election.

He said his remarks were made while addressing what he described as the alleged killing of APC supporters by thugs in Ilesa and other parts of the state.

The senator arrived at the police command at about 2:35 p.m. in the company of the Commissioner of Police in charge of election and security, Samuel Erale.

His invitation followed the circulation of the video in which he was allegedly heard speaking in Yoruba and directing supporters to kill members of the Accord Party and their family members.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke had on Tuesday accused Fadahunsi of inciting violence against Accord Party members and called for an investigation into the alleged comments.

Adeleke also demanded the senator’s immediate arrest, describing the alleged remarks as a potential national security threat.

Amnesty International also called on authorities to investigate the allegation and hold Fadahunsi accountable if found culpable.

The organisation, in a post on its X handle on Wednesday, described the alleged remarks as capable of inciting violence ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Meanwhile, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu Okokon, confirmed that Fadahunsi had been interrogated and said the investigation was ongoing.

Okokon said the outcome of the investigation would be made public after its conclusion.

He also assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to protect voters and election officials during Saturday’s governorship election.
