The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a transparent investigation of Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who, in a viral video, allegedly called for the elimination of Accord Party members, as well as other comments, which the party says are threats to peaceful and transparent elections in Osun State.

PDP, in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Interim National Working Committee (INWC), Ini Ememobong, also said President Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) and their officials should cease the deployment of anti-democratic narratives and threats, all in the name of political communication.

The party stated that Senator Fadahunsi’s statement, though uncivilised and appalling, is not strange, coming from the APC, noting that President Tinubu has been quoted to have said that “all is fair in politics”.

PDP noted that such statements have raised the political temperature of the country to unprecedented fever-pitch levels.

“Elections were not structured as a do-or-die contest but as an opportunity for the masses to freely choose their leaders,” the party said, stating that “what Nigerians face instead is a ruling party that has normalised warlike rhetoric – intimidating the people, silencing the opposition, and working to impose a predetermined outcome on the electorate in 2027.”

According to the PDP, civility must take centre stage in the nation’s political communication, adding that elections should be a true reflection of the will of the people, freely given through the ballot.

“This is the irreducible minimum, which the government and all political parties must adhere to, in the interest of the survival of democracy and the country,” the party demanded.
