Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber and recovered a locally-made pistol.

The command said the arrest followed a tip-off from a concerned citizen in Obollo Etiti in the Udenu Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, Chekwube Agbo, was apprehended on August 10, 2026, after policemen received credible intelligence about his suspicious activities at a hotel where he had gone to secure accommodation.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said officers responded to the information and searched the suspect’s bag, leading to the recovery of the firearm and one cartridges.

“The suspect’s bag was searched, leading to the recovery of the locally made pistol and live cartridge. The suspect was immediately arrested and taken into custody alongside the recovered exhibits,” he added.

The police said Agbo confessed during preliminary interrogation to being a member of an armed robbery syndicate that specialised in attacking and dispossessing Point-of-Sale (POS) operators of their valuables.

The command added that the suspect disclosed that other members of the gang fled the area before police arrived.

Ndukwe in a statement added that investigation was ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, while Agbo would soon be arraigned in court.

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Giwa, commended the resident who alerted the police, describing the intervention as a demonstration of the importance of public cooperation in crime prevention.

He urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons and activities, assuring residents that the command remained committed to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
