The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, over an alleged threat to kill members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Fadahunsi came under intense criticism after a viral video showed him addressing supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and allegedly directing them to “kill” members of the rival Accord Party if they were found in parts of Ilesa during the electoral process.

In the clip, which circulated widely on social media (and was shared by Afrobeats star Davido), the senator is heard speaking in Yoruba. 

He referenced alleged attacks on APC members and stated that from then until election day, any Accord Party members seen in Ilesa should be killed. 

Some versions of the video also included references to targeting family members.The gathering where the remarks were made was reportedly organised to protest the alleged killing of three APC members in the town and took place at the palace of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland in Ilesa.

In a letter dated August 11, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of the election, Samuel Etaifo Erale, the police invited Fadahunsi to appear at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12. 

The invitation stated that the police had information alleging that during his address he made statements considered threatening, inciting and intimidating, which had circulated on electronic and social media platforms. 

He was asked to clarify the circumstances surrounding the remarks.Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed the summons.

Governor Ademola Adeleke and his Imole Campaign Council had earlier demanded the senator’s immediate arrest and prosecution, describing the comments as a national security threat that went beyond politics. 

Adeleke said he had raised the matter with the Inspector-General of Police.Fadahunsi’s media office later issued a clarification, stating that the remark was metaphorical and political. 

He said he meant that APC supporters should “kill” the Accord Party at the ballot box with votes through lawful and peaceful democratic means, and insisted he did not advocate physical violence. 

He claimed the short viral clip was taken out of context from a longer speech.
