The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has passed a vote of confidence on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, for what it described as his leadership, commitment and support for the party.

The state chapter also passed a vote of confidence on Great Joshua MacIver, a member of the party who recently declared his intention to contest the 2027 Bayelsa State governorship election on the platform of the PDP.

The State Executive Council led by Turner further disclosed that MacIver had pledged to provide the Bayelsa PDP with monthly financial support of ₦70 million, beginning from August 2026.

The party also passed a confidence vote on the chairman of the party in the state, George Turner, for his doggedness and dedication.

The resolutions were announced on Friday at the party secretariat in Yenagoa during the inauguration of the PDP Campaign Budget Committee.

Speaking at the event, the Bayelsa PDP Chairman, George Turner, said the confidence votes were in recognition of the contributions of the individuals to the development and strengthening of the party, particularly in Bayelsa State.

Turner charged members of the newly inaugurated campaign committee to take the assignment seriously, stressing that the committee had been carefully constituted because of the important role it would play in the party’s preparations for the forthcoming elections.

He said the committee would produce a comprehensive campaign document to guide the party’s activities and strategy, adding that it would consult with candidates at the various levels, including the State House of Assembly and National Assembly.

According to him, the party would provide the committee with the necessary materials and information to enable it to carry out its responsibilities effectively.

Responding, the Chairman of the Campaign Budget Committee, Godfrey Pondei, represented by Timi Igoli, thanked the leadership of the party for the confidence reposed in the committee.

Igoli said the committee would work diligently to ensure that the party’s campaign was effectively coordinated, stressing that the election would be won at the grassroots.

He described the forthcoming campaign as a “bottom-to-top” exercise, noting that effective mobilisation at the grassroots would be critical to the party’s success at the polls.

He assured the party leadership that the committee would consult widely and work tirelessly to deliver victory for the PDP.

The state party leadership briefed party leaders and members of various working committees on developments within the party.

The leadership disclosed that the PDP had successfully concluded its primaries and produced candidates for the 24 State House of Assembly seats and five House of Representatives seats, as well as its senatorial candidates.

It further stated that the particulars of the party’s candidates had been successfully uploaded on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal.

The party congratulated the candidates and commended party leaders at the ward, local government and state levels for their contributions towards the successful conduct of the primaries.

The state leadership expressed confidence in the quality of the candidates produced by the party, describing them as credible and capable of securing victory for the PDP.

On MacIver’s governorship ambition, the party said his communication of interest had been formally received and considered by the State Working Committee.

It described his ambition as legitimate and said the PDP remained an open platform for Bayelsans and other well-meaning citizens to pursue their political aspirations.

The party leadership also disclosed that discussions had been held with its leaders on the welfare of elected party officials and other grassroots structures.

It said the party’s leadership had worked to address some of its financial and welfare needs, culminating in MacIver’s pledge to support the party with ₦70 million monthly.

The Bayelsa PDP leadership expressed appreciation to its national and state leaders for their support and appealed to party members and campaign committees to remain committed as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.

The party prayed for victory for all its candidates at the polls.

Other members of the Campaign Budget Committee are James Neminebor as Secretary, Sunny Pere, Otobo Dandy, among others.
