The Federal High Court in Bauchi has dismissed a ₦200 million fundamental rights enforcement suit filed against the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police.

The case, marked FHC/BAU/CS/94/2025, was brought by Dr. Aliyu Sulaiman Wunti against Alhaji Abdulaziz Tijjani and five others.According to Bauchi Police Command spokesman SP Nafiu Habib, the judgment was delivered on July 24, 2026, after 11 sittings. 

Wunti had sought declarations that his rights to fair hearing and property were violated, alongside injunctions against the respondents. 

He also demanded ₦200 million in damages, including ₦50 million for alleged property demolition, ₦100 million as general damages, and ₦50 million as litigation costs.

The police legal team defended the case, and the court ruled that Wunti failed to prove any violation of his rights. 

The suit was dismissed in its entirety, with ₦1 million costs awarded against the applicant in favor of the respondents.Reacting to the ruling, Bauchi Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu praised the command’s legal team for their professionalism and resilience. 

Habib added that the judgment reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to upholding the rule of law while protecting citizens’ rights and defending officers acting within legal bounds.
