Former Anambra State Governor and NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, made an unscheduled visit to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (Parklane), where he joined a humanitarian outreach organised by Okoh Emmanuel Onyeka, popularly known as Okwuluora, to support kidney patients receiving dialysis.
More than 500 kidney patients reportedly gathered at the hospital on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, following an invitation by Okwuluora, who said some Igbo sons and daughters had provided funds for distribution as financial assistance to patients struggling with the cost of dialysis.
Okwuluora had also hinted that an important figure from the South-East would be present at the event, without initially revealing the person’s identity.
Peter Obi later arrived at the hospital, where he met with the patients and supported Okwuluora’s humanitarian initiative.
Reacting to the visit, Okwuluora expressed excitement over Obi’s presence, describing it as one of the biggest honours of his life.
“H.E Mr. Peter Obi said I came to Enugu to see OKWULUORA. The biggest honour of my life. My late dad will be somewhere now smiling,” he wrote.
He also thanked the former Anambra governor for the surprise visit, praising his humility, compassion and concern for the wellbeing of the people.
According to Okwuluora, the latest outreach is about the fourth time within a month that he has invited kidney patients to receive financial assistance, with large numbers of patients turning up on each occasion.
The initiative has drawn attention to the financial difficulties faced by kidney patients, particularly the high cost of regular dialysis, while highlighting private humanitarian efforts aimed at providing relief to vulnerable patients.
