Arsenal have reportedly identified Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen as one of the alternatives they could pursue if they fail to secure their preferred attacking target, Julian Alvarez, this summer.
According to the UK Telegraph, Osimhen is on the list of strikers being considered by the Gunners as manager Mikel Arteta continues his search for a new centre-forward. Atletico Madrid forward Alvarez is understood to remain Arteta’s preferred option in the transfer market.
The Argentina international enjoyed an impressive first season in Spain after leaving Manchester City and has continued to attract interest from several major European clubs. However, Atletico have placed a valuation of more than £100 million on the 26-year-old, a figure that has so far proved difficult for Arsenal to meet.
The north London club are therefore assessing other possibilities in case a deal for Alvarez becomes unrealistic. Osimhen has now emerged as one of the names being considered by Arsenal. The Nigeria international has established himself as one of Europe’s most prolific strikers, particularly during his time at Napoli, where he played a major role in their Serie A title triumph.
His performances in Turkey have also maintained his reputation as a high-level goalscorer, with the striker becoming an important figure at Galatasaray. Arsenal are understood to be monitoring the situation, although there is no indication yet that the club have made a formal approach for Osimhen.
