APM: Osun election result foretells Tinubu’s 2027 defeat — Nigerians gravitating towards Seyi Makinde

The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) says the defeat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Osun governorship election is a sign that President Bola Tinubu could lose his re-election bid in 2027.

Ademola Adeleke, the incumbent governor and candidate of the Accord, secured 511,067 votes to defeat Bola Oyebamiji, the APC candidate and his closest rival, in Saturday’s election.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Yusuf Abubakar, its national publicity secretary, the APM said the voter turnout and voting pattern showed growing dissatisfaction with the APC.

“The triumph of the people over the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s governorship election in President Tinubu’s home state, Osun, not only foretastes the defeat that awaits President Tinubu in 2027 but also firmly established Makinde’s people-driven position that every political establishment seems unbeatable until the people decide otherwise,” the statement reads.

The APM also said the reception given to APC leaders during the election suggested that the party could struggle to attract support during the 2027 presidential campaign.

“Judging from the disposition of Nigerians as witnessed in the booing of APC leaders, President Tinubu and his party will struggle to command any genuine audience during the upcoming campaigns,” the APM said.

The party further claimed that Nigerians were increasingly gravitating towards Makinde, its presidential candidate and governor of Oyo, citing what it described as his record of performance, competence and commitment to good governance.

“Nigerians can no longer continue to stomach the arrogance in failure, totalitarian proclivities, worsening insecurity and economic hardship that the Tinubu administration now represents,” the APM said.

“They yearn for new realities under an honest, transparent, humane and people-oriented leadership as now embodied in the APM and our presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde.

“Nigerians are gravitating towards Seyi Makinde because they see in him the right presidential candidate with the desired track record of performance, practical blueprint, competence and youthful commitment to reset Nigeria to a nation of our collective dream.”

The APM also cautioned the APC against attempting to rig the 2027 presidential election, saying any effort to manipulate the outcome would be resisted.

“Our party therefore cautions the APC to read the handwriting on the wall and perish any thoughts of rigging the 2027 presidential election as any attempt to subvert the will of the people will be firmly resisted by Nigerians on the platform of the APM,” it said.

A few days to the Osun governorship election, Adebayo Adewale, the APM candidate, withdrew from the race and endorsed Adeleke.
