The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has warned of an attempted unauthorised compromise of its official X account, treating the incident as a cybersecurity matter.
In a statement issued on Saturday by Director of Defence Information Major General Samaila Uba, the military said appropriate technical measures had been activated to secure the account and block further unauthorised access.
Efforts are ongoing to fully restore control, Uba said. He urged the public, media and stakeholders to disregard any suspicious, unauthorised or misleading content that might appear on the account in the meantime.
The DHQ advised Nigerians to stay vigilant and rely on its verified channels on other platforms for accurate information.
These include Defence Headquarters Nigeria on Facebook, Instagram and its WhatsApp Channel.
The statement reaffirmed the military’s commitment to high standards of information security so that the public continues to receive accurate, timely and credible updates on the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
Further updates will be provided as necessary. The DHQ thanked the public for its understanding and vigilance.
