The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Southwest Zone D, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, describing the outcome as a resounding vote of confidence in his leadership.

The students’ body also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing a level playing field and ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Comrade Adeyemo Josiah Kayode, NANS said the election result reflected the confidence reposed in Adeleke’s administration after his first term in office.

The association noted that students across major tertiary institutions in Osun State participated actively in the election, contributing significantly to the democratic process.

It listed Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Osun State University (UNIOSUN), University of Ilesa (UNILESA), Osun State College of Health Technology (OSCOHEALTH), Federal Polytechnic, Ede (FPE), Osun State College of Education, Ila-Orangun, and Federal College of Education, Iwo, among institutions with significant student participation.

NANS said its position on the election followed an assessment of the state government’s performance in student welfare and educational infrastructure.

“Where government fell short, we challenged it. Where our members were affected, we confronted the issues. Where progress was made, we acknowledged it,” the statement said.

It added that the strong participation recorded in student-populated areas demonstrated the confidence young people had in the continuation of the administration.

The association also commended President Tinubu for what it described as a fair democratic posture, particularly his directive to security agencies to protect voters and ensure a peaceful election.

NANS further praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigeria Police Force, election observers and civil society organisations for their contributions to the conduct of the poll.

While congratulating Adeleke, the students’ body urged him to make his second term more student-centred, calling for increased funding for state-owned tertiary institutions, improved campus infrastructure, functional healthcare services, enhanced security, effective bursary and scholarship schemes, entrepreneurship support and graduate employment initiatives.

“The first mandate gave you the opportunity to demonstrate what your administration could offer. This second mandate must define your legacy,” NANS said, reaffirming its commitment to advocating for the welfare of Nigerian students.
