A 17-year-old girl has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after allegedly shooting two young women on Chicago’s South Side before being arrested approximately one hour later, according to Chicago Police.
The Shooting
At approximately 4:29 p.m. on August 16, 2026, a 20-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman were shot in the 4800 block of South Wood Street in the 9th District on Chicago’s South Side.
Both victims were injured in the shooting.
The Arrest
Chicago Police arrested the 17-year-old girl at 5:29 p.m. in the 5000 block of West 48th Street approximately one hour after the shooting.
She was taken into custody without incident.
The Charges
The juvenile defendant faces four felony counts in connection with the shooting.
Two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
Two counts of aggravated battery by discharge of a firearm.
Under Illinois law, juvenile defendants are not publicly identified by name. The defendant will appear before the Cook County Juvenile Court.
The 4800 block of South Wood Street sits in the New City neighborhood within the 9th District on Chicago’s South Side.
