The National Treasurer of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Diran Odeyemi, has described the re-election of the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, as a confirmation of the people’s trust in his administration.

Also, a former aspirant for the Osun East Senatorial District, Samuel Oyedotun, described Adeleke’s victory as “divinely arranged.”

Odeyemi and Oyedotun stated this in separate statements issued on Monday while reacting to Adeleke’s victory in Saturday’s governorship election.

PUNCH Online reports that Adeleke was declared elected on Sunday after winning 19 of the 30 local government areas in the governorship election held across the state on Saturday.

The State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, declared the result at about 7:24 am on Sunday.

Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to emerge victorious in the contest.

Reacting to Adeleke’s victory, the PDP National Treasurer said, “The victory is a confirmation of the people’s trust in his administration. The outcome of the poll reflected the will of Osun people who came out in large numbers to renew the mandate given to the governor in 2022. The poll was peaceful and largely transparent despite the tension that preceded the election.”

Odeyemi, who commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for their conduct during the election, said their professionalism helped to boost public confidence in the process.

The PDP chieftain also lauded party members, stakeholders and supporters in Osun for their mobilisation and commitment before, during and after the election. He urged Adeleke to see his re-election as a call to do more for the people of Osun, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, workers’ welfare, youth empowerment and economic development.

Meanwhile, Oyedotun, in his congratulatory message, said Adeleke’s re-election was a confirmation that no amount of manipulation could overturn a mandate freely given by the people.

The former Chairman of the Osun State Water Corporation Board, while commending the electorate for choosing Adeleke over other candidates, added that the governor’s second term would bring more development to the state.

“The victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke is divinely arranged. It is an act of God and made possible by the collective decision of Osun people who came out en masse to defend their mandate. Let me congratulate Osun people for their peaceful conduct despite reports of tension in some areas. You are truly the heroes, and I want you to keep supporting Governor Adeleke and the Accord Party,” Oyedotun said.

He noted the important roles played by INEC and security agencies in the successful conduct of the election, saying they ensured that votes were counted and results transmitted transparently.

Oyedotun urged all political stakeholders, including the opposition, to accept the outcome of the poll in good faith and support the current administration in delivering the dividends of democracy.

“Osun belongs to all of us. Now that the people have spoken, we must sheathe our swords and work together for the progress of our dear state,” he said.
