Ocelot Group, a health technology company registered in the United States and Nigeria, has launched a redesigned version of its Somalens mobile application, introducing artificial intelligence-powered health check-ins, personalised insights, wellness missions and digital rewards.

The company said the new features are designed to help users monitor aspects of their everyday wellbeing and develop more consistent health habits.

Founded by Nigerians with team members based in the United Kingdom and the United States, Ocelot Group said the redesigned Somalens app combines daily health tracking with gamified features, including health missions, check-ins, streaks, levels and SOMA Coins.

According to the company, the update is aimed at addressing the difficulty many people face in maintaining healthy routines amid work, family responsibilities and other daily demands.

Rather than requiring users to navigate extensive health information, the application allows them to complete smaller activities and track their progress over time.

AI-powered daily check-ins

The redesigned Somalens home screen allows users to access their health activities and daily tasks from a single interface.

The daily check-in feature enables users to record information relating to their mood, energy, sleep and pain. The company said the information collected over time can be used to generate personalised insights and help users identify changes and patterns in their wellbeing.

The application also features health missions, which are structured activities users can complete as part of their wellness routines.

Users who complete eligible activities can maintain streaks, progress through different levels and earn SOMA Coins, which serve as in-app rewards for participation and consistency.

Joy Bachashe Samuel, Co-founder and Lead UX Designer at Somalens, said the redesigned experience was developed to make health engagement easier to incorporate into users’ daily routines.

“We did not want Somalens to feel like another app that gives people information and then expects them to figure everything out alone,” Samuel said.

“The new experience is designed to guide users towards small actions they can repeat. When people can see their progress, understand their patterns and feel recognised for being consistent, wellness becomes easier to fit into everyday life.”

Samuel, who is based in Manchester, United Kingdom, led the user-experience design for the update, according to the company.

She said the introduction of gamification was intended to encourage consistent engagement rather than turn health management into entertainment.

“Health is serious, but the experience of caring for yourself does not have to feel intimidating or exhausting. Our goal was to use missions, streaks, levels and rewards responsibly, so that users feel encouraged to keep showing up for themselves,” she said.

App targets everyday health awareness

Ocelot Group said the redesigned application brings its health tracking and engagement tools into a more connected interface, allowing users to complete check-ins, review insights, monitor progress and participate in missions.

The company said the approach is particularly suited to mobile users, including those in Nigeria, where smartphones and digital platforms have become increasingly important tools for accessing information and managing everyday activities.

However, Somalens does not replace professional medical care, according to the company.

Ocelot Group said the application is not designed to provide medical diagnoses, while users experiencing symptoms or other health concerns are advised to consult qualified healthcare professionals.

The new Somalens experience is available through their official website, while existing users can access the update through their respective app stores. New users can download the application and create an account.

Ocelot Group said Somalens currently provides AI-powered health check-ins, personalised wellness insights, medication reminders, a non-diagnostic symptom-checking tool and gamified health activities.

The company operates through a cross-border team and serves users in Nigeria and other supported markets.
