Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has paid a surprise congratulatory visit to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, following the governor’s victory in the state’s 2026 governorship election.
Obasanjo visited Adeleke on Sunday, August 16, a day after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the incumbent governor winner of the keenly contested election held on Saturday, August 15.
During the visit, the former president congratulated Adeleke on securing a second term in office after defeating his major challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished in third position.
Obasanjo’s visit came amid a wave of congratulatory messages from political leaders, supporters and stakeholders following Adeleke’s re-election.
The former president’s gesture also highlighted the significance of Adeleke’s victory after a tightly fought contest in which the governor successfully defended his mandate against a strong APC challenge.
Adeleke’s re-election means he will continue to lead Osun State for another four-year term, following his first-term victory in the 2022 governorship election.
The visit by Obasanjo, a former president and prominent elder statesman, is expected to further reinforce the goodwill surrounding Adeleke’s victory as the governor begins preparations for his second term.
