By the time Marquell Rose walked into Harold’s Chicken Ice Bar in Robbins just after midnight Saturday he had been arrested seven times since the age of 19.
Weapons charges, Gun offender registration violations, Unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon, The system had encountered him repeatedly over nine years.
On Saturday night it would encounter him for the last time.
Seven Arrests Since Age 19
CPD public arrest records reviewed by Chicago Crime Chaser show Rose had a lengthy history with Chicago Police dating back to September 2016 when he was 19 years old.
Chicago Police
September 7 2016 — Age 19. Arrested at 8001 South Justine Street.
Charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon for carrying a loaded firearm without a valid Firearm Concealed Carry License.
That arrest placed him on Chicago’s mandatory annual gun offender registry.
May 29 2017 — Age 20. Arrested at 732 West 74th Street.
Charged with failing to comply with the annual gun offender registration requirement.
August 1 2017 — Age 20. Arrested at 7800 South Racine Avenue.
Charged again with failing to comply with the annual gun offender registration requirement. His second violation in three months.
Chicago Police
January 4 2019 — Age 21. Arrested at 500 South Congress Plaza Drive.
Charged with battery causing bodily harm and again with failing to register as a gun offender.
December 16 2020 — Age 23. Arrested at 8225 South Justine Street.
Charged with unlawful use of a weapon for carrying or possessing a firearm.
May 18 2021 — Age 24. Arrested at 6757 South Artesian Avenue.
Charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon possessing a firearm. That charge indicates Rose had prior felony convictions at the time. An active warrant was also served during that arrest.
June 26 2022 — Age 25. Arrested at 8225 South Justine Street. Warrant issued.
Chicago Crime Chaser has not been able to independently verify the outcomes of those prior cases.
A Birthday Party Turns Violent
Just after midnight on Saturday August 16 2026 Robbins Mayor Darren Bryant was at Harold’s Chicken Ice Bar in the 13700 block of South Claire Boulevard to celebrate a Robbins resident’s birthday when Rose entered the restaurant and opened fire, according to a Robbins village spokesperson and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
Rose grazed Mayor Bryant with gunfire. DJ Sean Howard who was working at the venue that night was also wounded in the shooting.
A contracted security guard at the restaurant intervened and shot Rose.
He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office confirmed his identity as Marquell Rose, 29, of Chicago.
Mayor Bryant was taken to an area hospital.
According to DJ Sean Howard, Bryant was released within 35 minutes and returned to the venue to check on patrons.
Howard was also treated at an area hospital and released.
The Mayor Responds
The Robbins village spokesperson said Mayor Bryant was not the intended target of the shooting.

The spokesperson noted that the people involved in the incident were not from Robbins and that the act of violence does not reflect the people, families, or spirit of our community.
Mayor Bryant later posted on social media thanking supporters for their outpouring of concern. In one post he wrote “I am OK. Thank God for once again covering me”.

Bryant was released from the hospital within 35 minutes of arriving and returned to the venue to check on patrons according to DJ Sean Howard.
Harold’s Chicken Ice Bar announced on its Facebook page that it would be temporarily closed until further notice.
