Natasha Osawaru, wife of Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia (2Baba), has been appointed Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.

Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency, was officially announced during Monday’s plenary session following a reshuffle of the Assembly’s leadership.

Her elevation comes under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), which she joined after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party in May 2026.

In a statement released by her Media and Strategic Communications Directorate, Osawaru’s appointment was described as a reflection of her influence within the chamber and the confidence reposed in her by colleagues and constituents.

Previously serving as Deputy Majority Leader, Osawaru has built her legislative profile around grassroots development, youth empowerment, and women’s participation in politics.

Speaking after the plenary, she expressed gratitude to her colleagues and constituents, stressing that her new role is a responsibility rather than a title.

“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust. Our democracy thrives on rigorous debate, accountability, and the courage to advocate for the ordinary citizen without compromise,” she said.

Osawaru pledged to remain committed to the development of Edo State, the progress of the NDC, and the prosperity of the people of Egor.

Her emergence places her in a key opposition leadership role within the Assembly.
