Afrobeats star David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has described the re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, as a triumph over overwhelming political resistance.
Speaking to journalists at his country home after the August 15 governorship poll, Davido said the contest felt like “war,” claiming that 17 governors, 50 senators, and numerous lawmakers rallied against Adeleke.
“Let me congratulate my governor for his re-election for the hard-fought battle. Let me not say battle but war… and he came out victorious. God is good,” Davido said.
The singer praised Osun voters for their loyalty, saying their determination to protect their votes was pivotal. He admitted becoming emotional on election day, moved by the massive show of support for the Adeleke family.
Davido urged political leaders nationwide to learn from Adeleke’s example, stressing that leaders who genuinely serve their people will earn their trust at the polls.
He also thanked Osun residents for resisting intimidation and vote-buying during the election.Beyond politics, Davido revealed plans to expand youth and sports development in the state.
As chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, he announced a proposed recreation centre with football pitches, swimming pools, and basketball courts to nurture young talent.
Adeleke secured a second term after defeating Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress.
Davido, one of his most vocal celebrity supporters, said his focus will now shift to initiatives that empower Osun’s youth through sports and recreation.
