The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the Oyo governor, Seyi Makinde, for his continued commitment to the welfare and development of students across the state, following the latest intervention of providing electronic bikes to student communities in the State.
NANS described the gesture as “another practical demonstration of the Governor’s responsiveness to the evolving needs of students and his determination to make student mobility and welfare a priority”.
The Oyo State Governor announced the donation of electric bikes to the Oyo student community about 3 days ago.
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, the National Financial Secretary of NANS, Comrade John Alao, described Governor Makinde as a leader whose commitment to students has been demonstrated through a consistent pattern of tangible interventions rather than mere promises.

He said the provision of electronic bikes for the students further reinforces the Governor’s position that the growth and development of Oyo State students must remain a priority until the final day of his administration.”
Comrade Alao recalled that the Governor had previously made history by providing 28 buses to tertiary institutions and student communities across Oyo State to address transportation challenges confronting students.
He noted that the latest provision of electronic bikes represents a continuation and expansion of his commitment, showing the administration’s willingness to explore new and innovative solutions to challenges affecting the student community.
The NANS leader also recalled the Governor’s interventions in bursary and scholarship support, educational materials, textbooks, and exercise books, as well as broader investment in the education sector.
According to him, the Oyo State Government has consistently made a deliberate effort to improve access to education and reduce the burdens facing students, including distributing millions of exercise books to public secondary school students.
“NANS therefore considers today’s electronic-bike intervention not as an isolated gesture, but as another chapter in what the Association regards as Governor Makinde’s sustained investment in the welfare and educational advancement of Oyo State students,” he said.
The Association commended the Governor for continually responding to the realities of the student community and for recognising that “meaningful investment in students is an investment in the future of Oyo State.”
Alao also commended the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Students’ Affairs, Victor Olojede, for his accessibility, responsiveness and continued engagement with student leaders across the state.
He described Olojede as an important bridge between the government and the student community, noting that his role has contributed significantly to ensuring that students’ concerns are communicated and receive appropriate attention.
NANS particularly appreciated Governor Makinde’s reaffirmation that, “We will continue to prioritize the growth and development of Oyo State students till the last day of this administration.”
The Association said the declaration is being matched by concrete actions and interventions that directly touch the lives of students.
NANS, however, commended both Makinde and Olojede for their continued partnership with the student community and urged the administration to sustain the student-centred approach in the remaining period of its tenure.
The Association reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement with the Oyo State Government and other stakeholders towards ensuring that the welfare, educational advancement and overall development of students remain central to the development agenda of the State.
