The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate allegedly operating within the Abeokuta metropolis.
The suspects, identified as 29-year-old Bidemi Tijani and 42-year-old Olajide Rasaq, were arrested on Saturday, August 15, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babasuyi, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

According to the statement, the police received actionable intelligence indicating that members of the syndicate, who allegedly disguise themselves as commercial taxi operators, were operating around Abeokuta.
The suspects were reportedly accused of using the vehicle to pick up unsuspecting passengers before dispossessing them of mobile phones, cash and other valuables.
Following the intelligence, tactical operatives of the VCRU reportedly spotted the suspects in a taxi heading towards the Ita-Oshin area of Abeokuta.
The police said the suspects attempted to flee after they were sighted, leading to a high-speed chase towards Ita-Oshin.
The operatives eventually intercepted the vehicle and arrested the two suspects.
The command said preliminary interrogation followed by statements obtained under caution allegedly led to both suspects confessing to being active members of the “one-chance” robbery syndicate.
The police said efforts had been intensified to track down other members of the syndicate who are still at large, establish the full extent of their alleged activities and recover relevant exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the VCRU operatives for what he described as their swift response, vigilance and tactical professionalism.
Ojajuni reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling violent crimes and other criminal activities across the state, warning suspected criminals that Ogun State would not provide a safe haven for them.
The police commissioner also urged residents and commuters to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or criminal activities to security agencies.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other alleged members of the syndicate.
