… As Lagos Assembly Seeks Focus On Uncompleted Projects

The Lagos State House of Assembly has received a request from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu seeking the reordering of the state’s 2026 budget, named the “Budget of Shared Prosperity.”

The request, contained in a letter read on the floor of the House by the Clerk, Mrs Adenike Oshinowo, outlined the rationale and priorities behind the proposed adjustment.

Leading the debate, Chairman of the House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget, Hon. Olumoh Sa’ad, said the 2026 budget had recorded about 69 per cent performance, making the proposed reordering necessary to ensure that available resources were directed towards priority areas.

Sa’ad also suggested that the review could provide an opportunity for the governor to reconsider the proposed N200 billion bond recently presented to the Assembly for consideration.

Contributing to the debate, Hon. Aro Moshood described the budget reordering as one of the dividends of democracy, expressing optimism that it would enable the government to respond more effectively to the needs of residents across the state.

Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu commended the budget’s performance but called for funds to be reallocated to projects that were progressing well and nearing completion.

He stressed the importance of adequately funding projects based on their scope and level of execution, noting that while some capital projects had recorded significant progress, others remained ongoing and required sustained funding to reach completion.

Also speaking, Hon. Kehinde Joseph urged the government to give greater attention to environmental challenges, particularly drainage and flood-control projects.

Joseph called for adequate funding for interventions aimed at tackling flooding and improving the quality of life of Lagos residents.

Following the debate, Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, referred the governor’s request to the Committee on Economic Planning and Budget for further consideration.

The committee was directed to submit its findings and recommendations to the House within two weeks.
