Ahead of the 2027 election, a nonpartisan citizens’ movement has been formed to select the best representatives for the people, regardless of political party affiliation in Ondo State.
The convener of the group, Hon Leye Igbabo, said the purpose of the nonpartisan group is to identify and promote competent and credible candidates for the 2027 general elections and subsequent elections, irrespective of political party.
Igbabo said the group would mobilise patriotic and public-spirited citizens, especially those who have not been deeply involved in politics, to take active interest in who represents them.
According to him, they would place competence, character, and track record above party affiliation. He said those with partisan leanings are welcome, provided they prioritise the interest of the people over party loyalty.
The former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain said the group would conduct public enlightenment and advocacy that will help voters look beyond party bias and focus on capacity to deliver.
He admonished people to reject
politics of palliatives, deception, and emergency projects, saying they will examine what aspirants have done for the people before and not what they start doing because of ambition.
The group titled ‘BeyondPartyLine ‘, Igbabo said the time has come to move beyond trial and error after 28 years of the present democratic dispensation.
His words: “We can no longer afford to elect representatives based only on party symbols while the needs of our communities remain unmet.
We will ask: What have you achieved before now? Have you been accessible and compassionate to the people? Are you prepared to serve, not just to rule?
“BeyondPartyLine invites all well-meaning sons and daughters of Ondo State who believe in development over party sentiment to join this movement. This is not about a party. This is about our people. This is about our future.”
