In separate interviews, the parties confirmed to our correspondents that they were ready to flag off their campaigns in readiness for the full-scale activities for the 2027 election.

The presidential and National Assembly elections will hold simultaneously on January 16, 2027, while the governorship and House of Assembly seats will take place on February 6, 2027.

According to the electoral calendar, the campaigns for Governorship and State Houses of Assembly seats will start on September 9, 2026.

APC waits on Tinubu, amidst lobbying for campaign DG post

Investigation within the APC National Secretariat revealed that the leadership of the party is awaiting an official directive from the leader of the party and its Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on the composition of the campaign structures.

The APC National Working Committee held a meeting at the party national secretariat on Monday, which lasted for over three hours.

Multiple sources revealed that two chieftains of the party are being mentioned as likely Director-General of the Presidential Campaign: Imo State governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Senator Hope Uzodinma.

The Imo State Governor incidentally is the Director-General and National Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a platform that has been showcasing the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration.

Also in the race for leadership of the Campaign platform of President Tinubu is former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdul- ‘aziz Yari.

A party source also told Nigerian Tribune that the name of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike,e is also being dropped in certain quarters as likely to play a prominent role in the APC Presidential Campaign team.

“The choice of who will drive the campaign rests solely with President Tinubu,” the party source told Nigerian Tribune.

We will soon unveil campaign structure – APC, spokesman

Speaking with journalists on Monday after the NEC meeting, National Publicity Secretary of the party, Barrister Felix Morka, however, assured the party faithful that it would soon unveil a detailed campaign programme.

The APC spokesperson maintained that the party would conduct thorough consultations before proceeding with the national campaign.

He said: “August 19 is the date fixed by INEC for all parties to start the presidential and National Assembly campaign. There is no law that we must start on that day. The only thing is, no political party is permitted to start ahead of the day.

“The party is coming up with a comprehensive and well-thought-out nationwide campaign schedule after necessary consultation with critical stakeholders and affected candidates. No law says we must start on Wednesday,” he said.

We’re putting structure for our marathon campaign together – ADC.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said that it is putting the final structure in place for what it describes as a “marathon campaign” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, made this known on Tuesday as official campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections are set to commence today, Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Speaking on the party’s level of preparedness, Abdullahi said the ADC is not in a rush, but is focused on building a campaign structure that will last until the elections in January next year.

When asked about the preparation for campaigns, he said, “We are preparing. We are putting together the campaign structure.”

He noted that with the election still months away, the party has time to organise properly.

“The election is until January next year. We still have some time. So, it is going to be a marathon,” he added.

Though the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, officially lifted the ban on campaigns on Wednesday Abdullahi said the ADC may not necessarily kick off activities immediately.

“The campaign officially starts tomorrow. But it doesn’t mean that we have to start immediately,” he stated.

He, however, stressed that once the party begins, it will sustain the momentum all the way to the polls.

“But when we start, we are not going to stop until the election,” the ADC spokesman said.

The 2027 presidential and National Assembly campaigns are scheduled to run from August 19, 2026 to January 2027 in line with the timetable released by INEC.

Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act provides that public campaigns by every political party shall begin 150 days before polling day and end 24 hours before the election.

Our campaign will be devoid of usual jamboree – PDP

The Interim National Working Committee (INWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is of the strong view that any political party planning a campaign for the 2027 polls in the “usual jamboree” format is headed for failure.

It noted that marketing candidates this time round would be tougher than in previous elections because Nigerians had grown wiser.

According to the INWC, a party hoping to make an impression in 2027 must run issue-based campaigns that would respond to the aspirations of voters.

The party gave its stance on Tuesday ahead of the opening of presidential and National Assembly election campaigns by political parties.

Speaking in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune in Abuja, the INWC’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said the PDP had learnt from the mistakes of the past and would now do less of wild ceremonies and “loud noises” in the name of campaigns.

Ememobong stated that the party would take the message directly to the voters, ensuring that both the “message” and the “messenger” met the expectations of Nigerians.

“So, our plans are sorted, and we are in top gear for both the presidential and National Assembly elections.

“But, you know that, having learned from three successive failures (2015; 2019; 2023), we know enough that the campaign is not a jamboree. So, we have crafted ingenious, cost-effective ways of getting the message across to the people,” he disclosed.

The INWC added that the campaigns would be in phases, incorporating both “formal” and “informal” strategies across the various constituencies and states by “deploying very ingenious means of achieving our aim.”

“So, when people, for example, prefer to do billboards at exorbitant costs, smart people would know more than that, you know, to reach directly to the people,” Ememobong said.

Our grassroots structure will market the 2027 campaign – LP

In the Labour Party, it is assured that its grassroots structure would market the candidates, according to the National Publicity Secretary, Mr Ken Asogwa.

He told the Nigerian Tribune that the leadership recruitment process in the party had already prepared the ground for smooth campaigns, using credibility, honesty and transparency as the key drivers.

Asogwa spoke more: “Today, more than ever before, the party has a formidable organisational structure, an energised membership base, and a credible presidential candidate who is young, well-educated and possesses the capacity to provide the visionary leadership Nigeria seeks. Also, at the state level, our candidates are people with tested integrity and acceptability. So, marketing them will not be a problem for the Party.

“As we ahave consistently maintained, the Labour Party is today the most structured political party in Nigeria. The party is unique among all political parties because the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are its institutional members.

“By implication, every serving and retired civil servant across the country is technically a member of the party. This gives the Labour Party an unrivalled grassroots presence.”
