Ondo State governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement that has halted academic activities across tertiary institutions owned by the state.
The approval, expected to take effect from August 2026, was announced in a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan.
The statement added that the government approved a 60 percent increase in the monthly subvention released to each of the universities owned by Ondo State.
It explained that the approval is to encourage staff by addressing long-standing welfare issues. “This approval covers all relevant state-owned tertiary institutions and is designed to address long-standing welfare issues, boost staff morale, and align the institutions with national standards,” the statement read.
Also, the governor urged the management of the universities to ensure that the subventions are managed properly and to prioritise staff welfare.

Recall that the national body of the Academic Staff Union of Universities approved industrial action over the issue of implementing the 2025 agreement for 20 of its member institutions, in which the state-owned tertiary institutions were included.
Meanwhile, following the announcement of the approval, the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, JCC Ondo State axis, suspended the protest scheduled earlier to call on the government for a swift action.
The student group stated that the suspension is subject to the implementation of the government approval, as it may embark on the action if the government fails to effect the resolutions.
