Marquise Earskines, 25, is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly shooting a 27-year-old man during a street argument in Grand Crossing on the South Side that turned violent in less than an hour, according to Chicago Police.

What Happened

At approximately 8:43 p.m. on August 18, 2026, a 27-year-old man was standing outside in the 7300 block of South Blackstone Avenue in the Grand Crossing neighborhood in the 3rd District when he got into an argument with another man, according to Chicago Police.

The argument became physical.

The other man pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the left arm. The victim was critically injured.

Caught in Less Than an Hour

At 9:32 p.m., less than an hour after the shooting, Chicago Police arrested Marquise Earskines, 25, in the 5600 block of South Wabash Avenue.

He was identified as the offender and placed into custody without incident.

The Charges

Earskines faces three counts in connection with the shooting.

One felony count of attempted first-degree murder.
One felony count of aggravated battery by discharge of a firearm.
One misdemeanor count of domestic battery causing bodily harm.

The domestic battery charge suggests the victim and Earskines had a prior domestic relationship.

A detention hearing is scheduled for August 21, 2026, at 2600 South California Avenue, which is the Cook County Circuit Court Criminal Division at Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

Prior Arrest

CPD public arrest records reviewed by Chicago Crime Chaser show Earskines was previously arrested on December 28, 2019, at age 19 near 301 South Hamlin Boulevard in the 11th District.

He was charged with resisting or obstructing a peace officer along with multiple traffic violations.

Chicago Crime Chaser has not been able to independently verify the outcome of that prior case.
