Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has declared that his 2027 presidential campaign will focus on what he described as a “reset” of Nigeria, with the interests of citizens placed above political, ethnic and religious considerations.
Makinde, in his latest newsletter, said the commencement of the 2027 election campaigns provides an opportunity for Nigerians to critically examine the country’s challenges and determine the kind of leadership needed to address them.
According to the governor, his campaign will be centred on “putting Nigerians first” and building a country that works for everyone rather than a select few.
He disclosed that his proposed manifesto, tagged “The Reset Agenda,” is currently undergoing stakeholders’ review and will address issues including insecurity, the economy, food security and the rising cost of living.
Makinde said he would embark on consultations across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones in the coming months to present his ideas and, more importantly, listen to citizens about their challenges and expectations.
He said the engagement would involve workers struggling with incomes, business owners battling to stay afloat, farmers facing insecurity and market challenges, young Nigerians seeking opportunities and families concerned about safety.
The governor also promised that his campaign would focus on the practical implementation of policies, including how they would be funded and how their outcomes would be measured.
Makinde urged Nigerians to look beyond political slogans and personalities when choosing their leaders, arguing that candidates should be judged by their records, ideas and ability to deliver.
He further warned against allowing the 2027 election to be driven by ethnic and religious sentiments, urging voters to ask difficult questions and scrutinise the programmes of all candidates.
Citing the recent Osun State governorship election, Makinde said increased voter participation demonstrated that citizens could influence political outcomes when they actively engage in the democratic process.
He therefore encouraged Nigerians to participate in the 2027 political process through campaigns, town hall meetings, policy discussions and voting.
Makinde said further details of his “Reset Nigeria Agenda” would be unveiled in the coming weeks as he seeks to build support for what he described as “the Nigeria we know is possible.”
