The FCT Police Command has commemorated International Youth Day 2026 with a Police–Youth Dialogue on Security, calling on young people to embrace discipline, patriotism and responsible citizenship.
The event was held on Saturday at Garki Primary School, Lagos Street, Abuja, under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations”.
In attendance were senior officers of the FCT Police Command, His Royal Highness, the Sa’peyi of Garki, Alhaji Dr Usman Nga Kupi; members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC); representatives of POCACOV; community members; and other stakeholders.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, emphasised the critical role of young Nigerians in national development and security. He urged them to remain productive, law-abiding and committed to the progress of Nigeria.
The CP warned youths to shun drug abuse, criminality and all activities capable of undermining their future and public peace. He charged them to uphold discipline, patriotism and service, summarising his message in three phrases: “Death before dishonour; Service before self; Nigeria first.”
As part of the activities, the CP conferred appointment plaques on Mr Joshua Chukwuma, aka MC Miti, and Mr Dantani Tanko as Police–Youth Ambassadors.
While presenting the plaques, the CP charged the new ambassadors to uphold integrity and responsible leadership and to serve as bridges between the police and young people by promoting dialogue, discouraging crime and drug abuse, and encouraging community development.
Also speaking, the Sa’peyi of Garki cautioned youths against drug abuse, political violence and being used by politicians to cause unrest, especially as election periods approach. He urged them to channel their energy into productive ventures that benefit their communities.
NYSC members who participated in the dialogue also stressed patriotism, service to the nation and collective responsibility in ensuring peace and security.
The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustained engagement with youths and other stakeholders to promote peace and responsible citizenship across the Territory.
The command called on young people to reject criminal associations and embrace productive opportunities. It also urged parents, traditional institutions, community leaders and youth organisations to support initiatives that foster positive youth development and stronger police-community partnerships.
