The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has passed a vote of confidence in the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, commending the Service’s efforts in intelligence gathering and preventing security threats across the country.

The association also honoured Ajayi with its National Merit Award, titled “Icon of Peace, Safety and Progress in Nigeria,” in recognition of his contributions to national security, peace and stability.

The award was presented at the DSS headquarters in Abuja by representatives of NAPS, led by its Immediate Past President, Comr. Eshiofune Paul Oghayan.

In a statement by Oghayan, the DSS’s intelligence gathering, assessment and dissemination, as well as collaboration with other security agencies, had contributed to creating a safer environment for students, campuses and communities.

The association noted that security support and intelligence provided by relevant agencies had contributed to the peaceful conduct of its national convention and other student activities.

Oghayan, while passing the vote of confidence in Ajayi’s leadership, commended his professionalism and the DSS’s efforts in threat prevention, national security coordination and provision of actionable intelligence to relevant agencies.

The association also called for continued collaboration between security institutions and the student community, saying security agencies should be seen not only as enforcement bodies but also as strategic partners in creating an environment where young Nigerians can learn, innovate and contribute to national development.

NAPS further commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly its interventions in the education sector, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), saying improved access to education and financing remained important to students.

The association expressed its readiness to sustain engagement with the DSS and other security institutions in promoting peace, responsible citizenship, national unity and development.
