The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has described the death of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly called Ogogo, as a monumental loss to Nigeria’s creative and entertainment industry.
Adeola expressed sadness over the actor’s death in a condolence message to his family, signed by his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, and made available to journalists on Sunday.
The senator described Hassan’s passing as a loss not only to his immediate family but also to Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.
“I am greatly saddened by the death of a brother who believed and worked assiduously for my cause and the cause of our people. I sympathise with his immediate family for their efforts and struggles to keep the dearly departed alive following his illness. God knows best in all circumstances,” Adeola stated.
Adeola noted that the late actor’s contributions to filmmaking and advocacy for a better society would remain part of his legacy, adding that his impact would continue to be remembered.
He also pledged continued support for Ogogo’s immediate family during their period of grief, saying the good deeds of the late actor would not be forgotten.
Adeola prayed for the peaceful repose of Hassan’s soul and asked God to grant his family the strength to bear the loss.
Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, died on Sunday at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer.
The actor was a respected figure in Yoruba-language cinema, with a career spanning several decades in the Nigerian film industry.
