A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Hon. Kayode Oladele, has declared that Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, remains the party’s only legitimate governorship candidate for the 2027 election, describing the continued governorship activities of Hon. Abayomi Hunye as vexatious, misleading and futile.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, Oladele said there should be no uncertainty regarding the APC’s position ahead of the 2027 governorship poll, insisting that Senator Adeola emerged through the party’s recognised processes and enjoys overwhelming support from leaders, members and stakeholders across the state.
According to him, the party has concluded its governorship candidate selection process and forwarded Senator Adeola’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), making him the only candidate authorised to fly the APC flag in the election.
“Let me state this clearly and without any ambiguity: Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Yayi, is the only legitimate governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State for the 2027 election. He is the candidate recognised by the party and whose name has been duly forwarded to INEC.
“More importantly, Senator Adeola enjoys the overwhelming support of APC members across Ogun State. From Ogun West to Ogun Central and Ogun East, our party members, leaders, elders, stakeholders and grassroots supporters have embraced his candidature and are united behind him.
“There cannot be two APC governorship candidates in Ogun State. The party has spoken, its members have spoken and the process has been concluded. Any individual parading himself as another APC governorship candidate is simply acting outside the recognised structure and authority of the party,” Oladele said.
He described Hunye’s purported unveiling of a running mate and continued claim to the APC governorship ticket as a “one-man show” that lacks the backing of the party.
“Hunye’s latest action is vexatious and completely unnecessary. The APC is an organised political party governed by its constitution, rules and established procedures. Individual ambition cannot override the collective decision of the party.
“What Hunye is doing does not represent the activities, position or programme of the APC in Ogun State. It is a one-man show that cannot alter the reality that Senator Adeola is the party’s legitimate candidate,” he added.
Oladele noted that Senator Adeola’s growing acceptance across the three senatorial districts demonstrated that the APC had settled for a candidate capable of uniting the party and strengthening its chances of victory in 2027.
He said Adeola’s extensive political experience, grassroots engagements and empowerment programmes across Ogun State had earned him widespread goodwill beyond Ogun West, reinforcing the resolve of party members to work collectively for his success at the polls.
The APC chieftain further described the 2027 governorship election as a historic opportunity for Ogun West to produce an elected governor after 50 years of Ogun State’s creation, stressing that the aspiration had evolved into a broader demand for equity, justice and fairness.
“At a time when the people of Ogun West are closing ranks around this historic opportunity and APC members across the state are rallying behind Senator Adeola, it is regrettable that anyone, particularly an indigene of Ogun West, would embark on activities capable of creating unnecessary distractions.
“This is bigger than the ambition of any individual. It represents the collective aspiration of generations of Ogun West people who have waited patiently for 50 years for an opportunity to govern their state democratically,” he said.
Oladele urged Hunye to retrace his steps and respect the collective decision of the party, warning that history would judge those who place personal ambition above the broader interests of the people.
“The train has left the station. Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Yayi, is the APC governorship candidate, the party is firmly behind him, and our members across Ogun State are united and mobilising for his victory.
“No amount of political grandstanding, parallel activity or self-proclamation can create another APC candidate where one already legitimately exists. For the avoidance of doubt, the APC has one governorship candidate in Ogun State for 2027, and that candidate is Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Yayi.
“That is the position of the party, that is the choice our members have embraced, and that reality cannot be rewritten by any individual ambition,” he stated.
