The former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Ezeakonobi Madumere, has stated his willingness to revive the healthcare delivery system in Owerri Senatorial Zone (Imo East District) if elected Senator in the 2027 general election.

The promise comes even as the ban on campaign activities has been officially lifted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The Imo East Senatorial candidate, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made this known while interacting with newsmen in Owerri on Monday.

He expressed his commitment to eradicating maternal and infant mortality across the zone.

Madumere lamented the unnecessary loss of mothers and newborns, describing it as a preventable situation that can no longer be left unchecked in a zone blessed with abundant human resources.

He said: “Every mother in our rural communities deserves qualitative, affordable, accessible, healthcare delivery system. No woman should face danger while delivering a baby.

Every life matters and we are going to work assiduously to fix the health sector in Owerri Zone”.

According to him, the Nigeria global index rating in this respect needs urgent attention, as more should be done to ameliorate the situation.

He said: “issues such as shortage of primary healthcare facilities, shortage of professional birth personnel, inadequate emergency obstetric care, and restricted access to antenatal and postnatal services, will be addressed frontally when elected as Senator in 2027 general elections”.

The Owerri Senatorial seat top contender, however, highlighted that his international exposure gave him insight into world-best medical practices, assuring that the same would be replicated in Imo East as soon as he assumes office, by the special Grace of God.

He said: “As someone with international exposure and experience, I am abreast with the health care needs of my people. I appreciate the fact that health is wealth and every development revolves around health.

Together, we will create the conductive environment where the health of the citizenry occupies prime position”.

Prince Madumere, a human capital development expert, submitted that upgrading and equipping Primary Healthcare Centres, as well as prioritising the renovation and equipping of functional primary healthcare centres in every ward, would be given adequate attention.

He indicated that constant training and retention of professional health personnel would be maintained on a constant basis, while paying adequate attention to the equipment of nurses and rural health workers for maximum productivity.

Prince Madumere explained that the Journey of Grace blueprint is all-encompassing and conversant with the heartbeat of the people.

He therefore called on the electorate, stakeholders and the entire citizens of Owerri Zone to develop a positive mindset and jump into this train, which is heading to the right destination.

He said: “i Prince Eze Madumere has done it before and set to rekindle same as a new Owerri Zone is possible, by the Special Grace of God”.
