Residents and groups in Abia State have begun advocating for the continuity of Governor Alex Otti’s administration beyond his tenure, with some calling on the governor to support his son as a possible successor after completing his constitutionally permitted two terms in office.

The campaign comes amid growing calls for Otti to seek re-election in 2027, with supporters arguing that his administration’s policies and development agenda should be sustained beyond 2031.

According to the groups, the push is not only about Otti remaining in office for a second term but also about ensuring that what they describe as his governance model continues after he leaves office.

Some residents have therefore floated the idea of Otti’s son taking over the reins of government in 2031, describing it as a way of preserving the direction of the state’s administration.

The proposal has, however, stirred conversations over political succession, democratic choice and whether governance achievements should be tied to a particular family or political structure.

While supporters view the campaign as a vote of confidence in Otti’s leadership, critics may question whether such a succession plan would leave enough room for other political actors and Abia voters to freely determine the state’s next leader.

For now, the focus among Otti’s supporters appears to be on securing a second term for the governor in 2027, while the longer-term question of who should succeed him after 2031 remains a subject of political discussion across the state.
