The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Lagos State Chapter, has mourned the death of one of Nollywood’s respected veterans, Chief Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
Hassan reportedly passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The guild described Ogogo as a giant of Nigerian cinema whose career spanned more than three decades and who became a household name through his commanding screen presence, powerful voice and commitment to portraying authentic Nigerian stories.
According to the guild, the late actor was also a mentor to many, a disciplinarian on set and a proud ambassador of Yoruba culture and Nigerian values.
The Director of Communications, AGN Lagos State Chapter, who spoke on behalf of the Chairman, executives and members of the guild, expressed profound grief over the actor’s death.
“Ogogo’s death is a huge loss to the creative industry. He represented excellence, integrity and the golden era of Nollywood. We celebrate his life, his works and the indelible mark he left on our industry,” the statement said.
The guild extended its condolences to Ogogo’s immediate family, the national body of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, the Nollywood community and his millions of fans across the world.
It prayed that God would grant his soul eternal rest and give his family the strength to bear the loss.
The guild said it would announce details of a befitting tribute and funeral arrangements in due course, in consultation with the family and the national body of the AGN.
