Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has called on the Federal Government to give traditional rulers a formal role in Nigeria’s security intelligence system, arguing that better information sharing among security agencies and local authorities is critical to tackling insecurity.
Ladoja said traditional rulers, because of their knowledge of communities and local networks, should be empowered constitutionally to serve as custodians and channels of security intelligence within their domains.
The monarch who stated this when participants of the Advanced Defence Intelligence Officers Course 16 of 2026 Defense Intelligence College, Abuja paid him a courtesy visit at his palace said, “To overcome insecurity occurrences in Nigeria there must be intelligence reports sharing among the accredited security stakeholders in the country as only bullets cannot win the insecurity war”, he said.
In a press release issued and signed by Ayoade Solomon Olugbemiga, the chief press secretary to Olubadan of Ibadanland, quoted the paramount ruler as observing that the lack of defined constitutional roles for traditional rulers prevent them to function optimally.
He called on the Federal Government to empower the traditional rulers constitutionally to perform effectively as the custodians of the intelligence reports within their domains and beyond
Earlier in his speech, the Commandant Usman Mainadara Bugaje who spoke through the Team Leader Director Jonathan Nyan expressed gratitude to Olubadan and his council for warm reception accorded them on their arrival to the palace
Apart from paying royal visit to the palace, the participants of the Advanced Defense Intelligence Officer’s Course 16, he said they there are to receive Olubadan’ s royal blessings and support throughout their 5 day visit to Oyo State and beyond.
“We are in Oyo State in general and Ibadan in particular to share from the historical and Intelligence experiences of Oba Ladoja as a man of history and a man of the moment”, the Commandant further stressed
The participants of the Advanced Defence Intelligence Officers Course 16 of 2026 were on the 5 day study tour of Oyo State to interrogate with the theme ” “Strengthening National Intelligence Multi Agency Coordination and Regional Security Cooperation “.
Present at the Courtesy visit Exercise were His Royal Majesty, Oba Sefiu Olawale Oyebola (Adeyeri 3rd), Ajirotutu 1, Aseyin of Iseyin land and the Chairman of Oke – Ogun Obas and Chiefs
