The remains of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have arrived in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, ahead of his burial.

The late actor’s body was received on Monday amid grief as family members, colleagues and residents gathered to pay their final respects to the Yoruba film icon.

Actress Ireti Osayemi was among the early Nollywood personalities who arrived in Ilaro for the burial ceremony, with videos shared on social media showing her arrival in the town.

Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after battling stage-four cancer.

His death was confirmed by multiple sources, including the founder of Best of Nollywood (BON), Seun Oloketuyi, who announced that the veteran actor had “finally lost the battle of life.”

The actor’s daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, had earlier appealed for urgent medical assistance after revealing that their father was battling the advanced stage of cancer.

The family disclosed that doctors had informed them that chemotherapy could no longer be administered due to his condition, prompting them to seek other medical options.

Veteran actor Jide Kosoko later announced Ogogo’s burial arrangements, stating that his remains would be taken to Ilaro for a lying-in-state ceremony at the Pavilion before his burial according to Islamic rites.

Ogogo, who was born in Ilaro, Ogun State, was one of the most respected figures in the Yoruba film industry, with a career spanning several decades as an actor, filmmaker and director.

His death has continued to attract tributes from colleagues, fans and government officials, who have described his contribution to Nigerian entertainment and Yoruba culture as significant.
