The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun Joint Campus Committee (JCC), and National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) have declared their support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship flag-bearer for the 2027 election.

The student bodies also warned Hon. Abayomi Semako Hunye against parading himself as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

In a joint statement issued at a press conference on Monday, the students described Hunye’s continued claim to the APC governorship ticket and his reported resort to legal action as attempts to create confusion within the ruling party.

The statement was signed by the National President of NAOSS, Comrade Olubodun Olalekan, and Chairman of NANS JCC Ogun, Comrade Habeeblahi Adekunle Tijani.

According to the student leaders, the APC in Ogun State had settled for Adeola as its consensus candidate in the interest of party unity, continuity and development.

They therefore called on Hunye to abandon what they described as a “desperate” ambition and seek the governorship ticket on another political platform if he remained dissatisfied with the APC’s decision.

The students also alleged that Hunye was being used by opposition elements and other disgruntled politicians to destabilise the state.

They said Ogun State had enjoyed peace and development under the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, warning that attempts to undermine the state’s political stability would not be tolerated.

The student leaders further alleged that some individuals within the APC had been working against Adeola’s emergence, citing what they described as previous instances of anti-party activities and recent allegations contained in a leaked audio recording.

They, however, did not provide independent evidence to substantiate the allegations contained in the statement.

The student bodies said they were backing Adeola because of his alleged contributions to education and youth development in Ogun State.

They cited projects in tertiary institutions, scholarships and empowerment programmes as some of the initiatives they said had demonstrated the senator’s commitment to students and youths in the state.

According to them, “Senator YAYI, as the bona fide APC governorship candidate, has facilitated several projects that have directly enhanced education development across Ogun State.”

The groups also argued that provisions of the Electoral Act should not be used to justify what they described as political rascality, insisting that participation in campaign activities did not automatically confer legitimacy on a political ambition.

While affirming their confidence in the judiciary, NAOSS and NANS JCC said they also believed in the supremacy of party decisions, urging APC leaders and members to rally behind Adeola.

They warned that Ogun students and youths would not remain passive if political activities threatened the peace and stability of the state.

The groups also recalled the role of Nigerian students in the struggle for the restoration of democracy, saying students had historically participated actively in campaigns against military rule.

They urged Hunye and other aggrieved aspirants to accept the APC’s decision and work for the progress of the state rather than pursue actions capable of deepening political tension.

The student leaders concluded by calling on APC members and residents of Ogun State to disregard what they described as Hunye’s “political distractions,” declaring their support for Adeola’s 2027 governorship bid.

“The train has left the station, and it is headed to victory with Senator YAYI at the helm,” they said.
