The Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni, has officially declared the 2026 Yobe Spelling Bee 3.0 Competition open, while reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to promoting academic excellence and nurturing young talents across the state.

The event, themed; “Building Champions Through Knowledge, Inspiring Excellence for a Brighter Yobe state,” has brought together pupils and students to showcase their spelling abilities, confidence and intellectual capacity.

Declaring the competition open at the North East Development Commission (NEDC) Hall, Government Girls Unity College, Damaturu, Governor Buni stated that the spelling bee competition is designed to encourage students to develop strong language skills, broaden their vocabulary and cultivate a culture of learning, discipline and healthy academic competition.

The governor who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Idi Barde Gubana said: “This year’s edition features participation from 73 schools across all 17 local government areas of Yobe state, who will engage in three days of academic competition, intellectual discovery and celebration of excellence.

“Our administration is determination to ensure that talent is discovered and supported regardless of location, background, or educational circumstance.”
