Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatis-Sunnah (JIBWIS), national headquarters, Jos, has declared support for the political position of its National Chairman, Ulama Council, Sheikh Muhammad Sani Yahaya Jingir, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The organisation stated this in a communiqué signed by the National Secretary, Mas’ud Ibrahim Tulu, at the end of its national symposium on “Enhanced Political Participation and Social Justice as a Panacea for Unity and Development in Nigeria,” held at Saddeeq Event Centre, Jos.
The symposium, which attracted over 350 Islamic scholars, political leaders, academia, professionals, youth representatives and other stakeholders, called for responsible political participation and greater social justice.
“Muslims, like all other citizens, have a legitimate responsibility to participate constructively in Nigeria’s political process,” the communiqué said.
It added that political participation should be guided by “peace, integrity, competence, consultation, respect for Nigeria’s Constitution and the common good.”
The organisation said: “We want to state, without any equivocation, that we, the entire bona fide members of JIBWIS from all states across Nigeria, are strongly in support of whatever position our National Chairman, Ulama Council, Sheikh Muhammad Sani Yahaya Jingir, has decided to take with respect to the forthcoming national elections in 2027, especially the Muslim-Muslim slogan.”
The symposium also urged political leaders to place national interest above personal, ethnic, religious and partisan interests.
It called for democracy anchored on justice, accountability, transparency and the rule of law, while urging citizens to participate peacefully in elections and other democratic processes.
The organisation further condemned incitement to violence, misinformation, hate speech and religious intolerance.
It said Nigeria’s diversity should be regarded as a source of strength, stressing that “there can be no enduring national unity without justice.”
JIBWIS also called for equitable distribution of development opportunities and public resources, while urging young Nigerians to reject political violence, criminality and extremism.
The organisation extended condolences to families of victims of banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminal violence, calling on Nigerians to pursue disagreements through dialogue and lawful democratic processes.
