The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has warned Nigerians against falling victim to fraudulent recruitment schemes involving fake employment and appointment letters purportedly issued by the agency.

NAMA issued the warning in an official statement on Tuesday, signed by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Dr Abdullahi Musa.

The agency said it was seriously concerned about the development, noting that the fraudulent activities were designed to exploit unsuspecting job seekers while undermining NAMA’s corporate identity and integrity.

“For the avoidance of doubt, NAMA is not currently conducting any recruitment exercise,” the agency stated.

NAMA added that any individual, group or organisation claiming to recruit, facilitate employment or issue appointment letters on behalf of the agency was acting without its knowledge, approval or authorisation.

Agency warns against payments

The aviation agency urged job seekers and members of the public to exercise utmost vigilance when approached with purported NAMA employment opportunities.

NAMA specifically advised Nigerians against making payments, submitting sensitive personal information or entering into transactions with individuals claiming to have the authority to secure employment with the agency.

It said any recruitment notice, employment communication or appointment letter purportedly emanating from NAMA should be independently verified through the agency’s recognised official channels before any action is taken.

The agency also warned members of the public to disregard unofficial correspondence, social media messages and representations by unauthorised intermediaries.

NAMA disowns recruitment agents

According to NAMA, it does not authorise individuals or third parties to solicit money or other forms of consideration in exchange for employment.

The warning comes amid concerns over fraudulent employment schemes in which unsuspecting job seekers are promised positions in government agencies in exchange for money.

NAMA urged members of the public to report suspected cases of impersonation or fraudulent representation to the appropriate authorities.

The agency also stated that it would not accept responsibility for losses or consequences arising from dealings with fraudsters or unauthorised persons falsely claiming to act on its behalf.

Public urged to verify information

NAMA encouraged Nigerians seeking employment to rely on information released through the agency’s recognised official channels.

It stressed the importance of independently verifying any recruitment advertisement, employment communication or appointment letter carrying the agency’s name or identity before responding.

The agency further advised job seekers to remain cautious of unsolicited messages and offers circulated through social media platforms, messaging applications and other unofficial channels.

NAMA reiterated that any genuine recruitment exercise would be communicated through its authorised channels, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to employment-related scams.
